I have a 15 year old step-son that has Autism and ADHD. He was never diagnosed until the age of 10. I have been taking care of him solely with not much support from biological father. I am at the point that I cannot deal with his behaviors anymore as I also have other children at home with severe issues. FATHER has moved out of state so I am dealing with alone. Any suggestions on residential programs that he can be placed? I love him and have tried to do everything I can for him, but he just doesn't seem to care. He hates, as does his Father having the label of Autism.

What about the new law where parents can use the money allocated to public schools for their child's care or school. Is it Lexi's law? Please let me know how to find this info. Thanks!

Heh, there are some great doctors in Mesa and I think they have offices elsewhere. Dr Shayne Mary Tomisato who works out of Mesa and Phoenix, I believe. We went thru Drs at PCH and didn't get a correct diagnosis, they all want to diagnose with Bipolar and that isn't the whole picture...check her out! They've got some good therapists there also. Phone number 602-470-5520

I moved here from California with my 13 yr. old autistic son and I don't know where to start to look into services for In Home Health Services (IHSS) which I received for being his sole care giver. ANY and ALL info would be greatly appreciated.

Rose, There are programs out there for adults to help you and your son. I dont know how old he is but SARRC has a vocational program for adults, and you can always join the coalition to get advice and resources from other parents and professionals.

I have an adult child with Autism who lives with me. He is verbally abusive, and a little agressive. We are basically caving in to most of his demands, as we are kind of afraid not to give him what he wants. He mostly stays in his room all day long and plays computer games. I am not sure where to turn for help. It has been suggested that I need to get guardianship over him. I applied for DDD and was turned down. He has been in group homes, and won't go to another one. I feel like he was not adequately treated as a child, altho I did all I knew for him. Everywone kept hoping he'd grow out of it. We are not getting any younger and something needs to be in place for him. He does have Social Security.
