A new program/resource, free for East Valley families is working to get information out to engage more families in the Mesa, Gilbert and Queen Creek communities and to let them know that this free in-home support program exists! MyChild’sReady, voter-initiative funded on behalf of First Things First, ensures that families who are expecting, in addition to those with children from birth to age five, have access to quality early childhood experiences. The program lends support to families in meeting developmental needs in order for children to start school healthy and ready to succeed. There are no requirements for the program, other than living in one of the specified cities, and be either an expecting parent, or have a child in the 0-5 age range.

For parents who are pregnant, or those with newborns - MyChild’sReady provides information on fetal growth, nutrition and the physical and emotional adjustments they are/will be experiencing. Parents will learn about their baby’s development, cues, care and feeding and sleep patterns, as well as receive family support.

For parents of toddlers – MyChild’sReady will support families as their children transition to solid foods, meeting nutritional needs, assist with parent-child interaction time, dental health, speech and developmental and growth milestones as their baby starts to talk, crawl and walk. The program also helps to manage the “Terrific Twos!”

For parents of pre-schoolers – Working with a MyChild’sReady parent educator, families will learn games, songs and activities to support the physical, emotional and verbal development occurring during this age. This includes coping with stress, socialization, temper tantrums, picky eating and much more.

MyChild’sReady offers personal visits to homes, parent group meetings, developmental screenings and resources. Families also receive additional support interacting with their child, guidance and discipline techniques, stress management methods, infant brain development information and support enhancing family life. Home visits occur at least monthly but can be more frequent as support is needed.

To refer families and community members to this beneficial program, please have them call the MyChild’sReady main office at 480.304.9440, or e-mail at mychildsready@childcrisis.org

Families may also access the Web site at www.mychildsready.org
